Come Make Some Mistakes With Us!

The only way to become a good speaker is to get up and speak - again and again. Get to the point - make them laugh or make them cry, inform them without boring them!  Wrap it up gracefully, and take your seat.

Overwhelming? Not at all. Dozens of members have walked through our open doors. Some have been shaking with fear, some merely wanted feedback to polish off their skills.  All have gained confidence, made friends, and become better speakers.

Make some mistakes in a fun environment, not a serious one!
Making mistakes is the only way to learn. If you are already a confident speaker, try taking some chances. Throw in some jokes. Speak "in character" (like Johny Appleseed, below). Enter a competition. But make your mistakes in here with us, not out there with them! You can't grow unless you move out of your comfort zone.

what?Open Door Toastmasters is a non-profit organization which gives its members the opportunity to develop and improve their public speaking abilities through local club meetings, training seminars and speech contests. It is a member of Toastmasters International, which includes more than 211,000 men and women in more than 10,500 clubs in more than 90 countries.

why?Experienced professionals and beginning speakers alike can benefit from our practical, face-to-face learning program. Whether you're speaking to the board of directors, your customers, your co-workers or your kids, Toastmasters can help you do it better. You'll learn and practice in a friendly, comfortable environment with people who are there for the same reason you are—to become better communicators.

The Open Door Difference - we try to have a little fun. Many of our charter members came just to try something new. We've had speeches on beer, kissing, growing up in Wales, "the speed of shtink", and America's obsession with bathrooms (and who cleans them all?). Visitors often comment on how supportive we are. Come make some mistakes with us! (There's no better way to learn.)

how?At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. Open Door Toastmasters is made up of about 32 people who meet twice a month for an hour and a half. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation.
